April 2-6
Indianapolis Public Schools will be out of school for Spring Break from April 2nd to April 6th. We hope everyone has a nice and restful break. When we return to school, only 9 more weeks of school before summer break!

Starting Monday April 30th and running until Wednesday May 9th, all students in grades 3-6 will be taking the multiple choice sections of the ISTEP test. Session 1 of the ISTEP test back in March was all the writing questions. Session 2 involves all multiple choice tests. It will be very important that every student is at school every day and is on time since testing begins right away in the morning. We also encourage students to make more effort to get to bed on time and eat a good breakfast during the ISTEP testing sessions. These tests are a great way for our students to show how smart they are and how much they have learned!! If you have any questions, please feel free to call your child's teacher or the school at 226-4214. We are excited that our School 14 kids have one more chance to show the world what bright children they are!

College Readiness Program!!
School 14 wants all our students to aspire to attend college!
Since the beginning of the school year, we have been busy talking to our students on a daily basis about going to college! Sure they are just in elementary school right now but research has shown that the earlier you talk to students about college, the more likely they are to attend later in life.
So Indianapolis Public Schools has set out to get our students to college! They developed a College Readiness Program that is streamlined for all teachers and includes daily activities to help inform students about college and college life. Teachers have also put up displays all around their school buildings to get kids thinking about college. And School 14 has some excellent displays where kids can both get information and see themselves as actual graduates!!
It's just one more way we are preparing our School 14 children for their bright futures!

They can have fun and get healthy in our Fun and Fitness Club! They can learn discipline and the science of running in our Cross Country and Track Club. Girls can work on self-image and empowerment in the Girls, INC. club. Students are encouraged to begin thinking about college during their elementary school years in the College Mentors program. We also have basketball teams, Art Club sponsored by the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and a whole host of tutoring opportunities through such groups as the Boner Center and School on Wheels. These are just a few of the activities available to our students! There is a special activity for every child at Washington Irving!
To give you just a few of our academic activities that take place during the school day, we have volunteers from the Read Up! program who come work with students every day in reading. We have a Lunch Buddies Mentoring program where adult mentors come eat lunch with students each day. We have Project Seed which brings mathematicians in to work with classrooms on math projects. These are just a few of our additional programs!
